Skyros entered for the first time in the Charter of Blue Flags in 2018 with its Port!
The Skyros Port Authority as the manager of the Tourist Port of the Linaria Port is the first operator of the Greek State to be awarded the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag was awarded by the National Operator of the International Program “BLUE FLAG”, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Life Nature in an exceptional ceremony at the Melina Merkouri Theater in North Astros Kynouria. The excellent organization of the evening was credited to the passionate members of EEPF and the Municipality of North Kynouria. Among other things, the President of the Hellenic Organization of Tourism Mr. Karimaris, the President of the Hellenic Marines, Mr. Katsikadis, the Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on the Environment Engelsis, the President of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs Mr. Petrou, the Vice-President of the Hellenic Ministry of Development, Mr. Skabardonis, the coordinator of the “Blue Flag” program Mrs. Vourdouba, the Mayors, the Presidents of Organizations etc.

The title by which the UN designated the Port of Skyros in 2016 “The Blue Harbor with the Green Tint” at its award in Marrakesh, Morocco in 2016, was verified in 2017 when the Harbor was certified as “Green” and 93rd member of the European ECO PORTS and in 2018 as “Blue” with the award of the Blue Flag 2018!
The contribution of the “SKYROS” program, the University of the Aegean and the head of the environmental department of Professor Konstantina Skanavis was great, since with the three environmental actions that are being implemented together with LS Skyros, the students of the PA. each year at the Port, covered a basic requirement of the “Blue Flag” program.
The “Blue Flag”, a symbol of quality in over 50 countries today, constantly growing, is awarded with strict criteria to organized beaches and marinas operated by coastal different actors. The voluntary “BLUE FLAG” program began in the 1980s. Today, 50 countries from almost all continents, not only Europe, are participating in this voluntary program. The responsible international operator of the Program, the Fee (Environmental Education Foundation) in cooperation with the member countries Coordinators, reforming occasionally the award criteria, making stricter continuously implement them, in order to improve, the conditions on the coast and award winning marinas.
